Corrina P. Azarcon, MD, DPBO
About
Dr. Corrina Azarcon is a retina and cataract surgeon with advanced fellowship training and a distinguished academic background. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of the Philippines, graduating summa cum laude, and completed her Doctor of Medicine at the UP College of Medicine as cum laude and class salutatorian.
She went on to complete her ophthalmology residency at the University of the Philippines, where she consistently ranked among the top in the national Ophthalmology Residents’ Proficiency Examination (OPEX), placing first in her senior year. During her final year, she served as chief resident and was recognized with the Certificate of Outstanding Leadership. Upon graduation, she received the Certificate of Academic Excellence for finishing at the top of her class. Following residency, she again ranked first in the country in both the written and oral diplomate examinations of the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Azarcon then brought her talents to the United States, completing a fellowship in ocular oncology and pathology at Emory University under the mentorship of Drs. Hans Grossniklaus and Jill Wells. She subsequently pursued a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Calgary in Canada, where she gained extensive experience in the medical and surgical management of complex retinal diseases.
She is now based in San Antonio, Texas, where she provides comprehensive care in retina and cataract surgery at the Texas Diabetes Institute. Her clinical practice includes cataract extraction, vitrectomy, intravitreal injections, and laser treatments for diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, and other retinal conditions. She also evaluates new patients with ocular surface tumors and offers long-term monitoring for intraocular tumors.
While her professional commitments remain a priority, Dr. Azarcon values her time outside of medicine. She enjoys staying active through pickleball, Ultimate Frisbee, and hiking, and finds joy and perspective through travel. These interests help her maintain a balanced lifestyle and bring renewed energy to her clinical practice.
